What Should You Do If You’re Struggling to Cope With Life in Your Marriage
The difficulties we go through as a married couple don't get any easier as the years pass!
We've had our fair share of challenges over eight years of marriage.
The birth of Jere, our firstborn, brought us significantly bigger responsibilities. We became parents–– responsible not only for ourselves but a small child.
When Anna gives birth to our newest family member, we'll have two children to raise.
Seeing our parents age, caring and providing the right support for them in the process, and having to deal with the fleeting nature of life adds emotional strain.
As we grow older and become more experienced in the workplace, the pressure to pursue career advancement also heightens.
As life progresses, the intensity of these trials only seems to grow.
All these everyday things affect our mental health, physical health, and emotional wellbeing.
On a positive note, we realised we only learn to cope better.
In the early days of our marriage, even the prettiest argument or simplest inconvenience would shake us.
But through the years we've spent growing together, we've become more resilient as a couple.
Our experiences have shaped who we are and given us the strength to withstand hard times.
We're now better equipped to navigate disagreements and handle life's curveballs without letting them derail us.
The longer we are together, the better we understand each other's strengths, weaknesses, and coping mechanisms. This strengthens our bond, so we're able to conquer challenges with a united front.
We take every tough time as an opportunity for us to rise above and weather the storm together.
We can either allow our difficulties to tear us apart or bring us closer together–– we choose the latter.
Our mantra, "Think love, choose love, keep choosing love", means no matter what tribulations come our way, we will choose love.
Love is the best thing we do as humans.
It's what will allow us to see through tough times together. It's what will allow us to continue honouring the vows we made before the Lord when we got married–– "To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
Despite the chaos and unpredictability of life, there's a sense of peace that comes with time.
As the years go by, we become more familiar with each other and our shared life.
With this familiarity, overcoming difficulties has become second nature to us as a married couple.
The Bottomline
If you find yourself struggling to cope with life's challenges in your marriage, take heart.
We acknowledge it's easier said than done. But with time, patience, and an unwavering commitment to each other, couples can learn to navigate these difficulties together.
