Travelling With Passports: Organisational Hacks Every Family Needs

Travelling abroad with toddlers and infants can be an exciting adventure, but it also comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to safeguarding essential documents like a valid passport and a valid visa.

Below are the things we do to avoid the hassle and complications that come with losing a passport while abroad.

Make Multiple Copies

Before we leave for a trip, we make several photocopies of each family member's passport.

We keep a copy of each passport in a separate location from the original, such as in a different bag.

It's also wise to leave a copy with a trusted friend or family member back home.

More importantly, we keep digital copies of every passport on our smartphones.

This way, in case of loss or theft, we have quick access to vital information for replacing a lost or stolen passport.

Organise Passports in a Passport Holder

Keeping everyone’s travel documents, especially our children's passports, organised in one dedicated holder is crucial for families like us who travel with a toddler and an infant.

We can simplify access during check-ins and security screenings, saving time and reducing stress.

We like the Snazzy Hawk Family Passport Holder because it has a zippered pocket that ensures the safety and security of our passports, boarding passes, and even our money.

It's lightweight yet features so many pockets, including ones for bank cards and SIM card slots.

This passport wallet is long enough to hold our boarding passes and some cash as well, so it's an excellent travel wallet for the whole family.

Having a passport holder with multiple slip pockets and zip closure gives us peace of mind. It enhances security by minimising the risk of losing important travel documents.

Invest in an AirTag

We recommend attaching anAirTag to important items like passport holders. This device will help us track important belongings, should they go missing.

Know When to Leave It Behind

Depending on the country we’re in, we don’t always need to carry our passport with us while exploring.

In many cases, we leave every passport at our accommodation and only bring photocopies along with another form of identification, such as a driver’s licence.

Use Secure Storage Options

Be Aware of the Surroundings

While carrying valuables like a passport when exploring new places, it’s vital to always stay vigilant about the surroundings.

We avoid displaying anyone's passport openly, especially in crowded areas like airports and tourist hotspots.

Should we need to check our current passport details or further information, we do it discreetly by referring to the copies on our smartphones, if possible, instead of taking out the originals.

Prepare for Emergencies

In case of loss or theft, the key is not to panic.

We know best to report the incident to local authorities and contact our country’s embassy or consulate for guidance on obtaining a replacement or new passport.

This process will be expedited if we’re readily available to correctly provide our passport details, such as the passport validity or expiry date.

Wrapping Up

Implementing these strategies for safekeeping every passport during our international trips with our toddler and infant allows us to streamline our travel experience and focus on enjoying quality time with one another.

We hope you find this helpful in ensuring a smooth travel experience with your loved ones!
